Witnessing couple of fatalities due to lack of availability of blood, KushrooPoacha, an employee in the Indian Railways developed an online portal for connecting those in need of blood and those who are willing to donate.
Scalability and Impact:
Khushroo Poacha has been providing blood to terminal cancerpatients, free of cost, in the Indian sub-continent.Poacha runs indianblooddonors.com (IBD), a site that lets blood donors and patients in need of blood connect with each other almost instantaneously. With 150,000 registered voluntary donors, hisorganisation had facilitated access to blood for more than 55,000 patients.
The site has been live since past 18 years and has spread across the Indian sub-continent with the use of bumper stickers and postage stamps, without any revenue model.
